Family Fun Day

Java Edge would like to take a moment to introduce you to Madison.

Madison is a bright and beautiful eight year old girl with a sparkling personality that you just cannot ignore. Madison also has cerebral palsy, she was diagnosed with the disability at six months old. Cerebral palsy can often lead to a number of other health concerns and Madison is no exception. Over the last seven and a half years she has been diagnosed with asthma, hypotonea (low muscle tone) and apraxia (a dysfunction of the neurological system). Madison has had some difficulties in keeping up the pace with other children in school, she seems to need to be very close to something to clearly see it as well as swaying her head. Her mother took her to Cimarron Family Vision Center to see Dr. Amy Thomas and find out if her vision may be inhibiting her learning experience. Dr. Thomas conducted a series of thorough exams and tests to determined that the muscles that control eye movement were not functioning properly. Madison's head sway was her bodies own natural correction to make the images she was seeing come into focus. They have set-up 40 weeks of therapy that will allow Madison to see as clearly and easily as any other eight year old child. The therapy will cost roughly $7,000 and with Madison's mother being a single parent with three other children, this is an enormous expense.

There is no doubt that with this treatment her quality of life will improve dramatically as well as her academic success, so here at Java Edge we are calling out for help from all of you! We will have collection jars at all Java Edge locations and will be hosting a family fun day at our new Bear Canyon location on Saturday September 25th from 2pm-5pm. We will give all money collected and 15% of Sales on Family Fun Day to Madison's treatment with any excess benefiting the Tucson chapter of United Cerebral Palsy.
